Instruments of the Malte Burba®-Edition professional instruments by traditional passionate manufacturing Kühnl & Hoyer joins a long-lasting successful cooperation in the continuous development of piston valve instruments with Prof. Malte Burba, who is one of the most interesting and versatile brass players of our time. Next to his own musical working, he is teaching at the Musikhochschule in Dresden, at the Peter Cornelius-Konserveratorium in Mainz and at the Musikhochschule in Mainz. His brass workshops have made him known worldwide.
Prof. Malte Burba	The own experience as musician and the long-lasting experience as music teacher are the base for the professional cooperation in the development of new instruments at Kühnl & Hoyer. The instruments introduced on this homepage, have developed in close cooperation with Malte Burba. Each model is being tried out and personally tested by Malte Burba before leaving our company.
Bb-Trumpet “UNIVERSAL“ Malte Burba As the name says: the model “Universal” is suitable for universal usage. Response and intonation are excellent, especially in the middle and high registers. The gold brass lead pipe and the gold brass tuning slide guarantee durability and stability. The included extra heavy valve caps enable an individual adjustment of the sound.

Anniversary Model Bb-Trumpet “UNIVERSAL“ Malte Burba On occasion of the 10 year old cooperation with Prof. Malte Burba, Kühnl & Hoyer offers his personally favourite trumpet of the Malte Burba®-edition in a special refined design. The model Universal with brass bell and silver lead pipe is his choice. The light brass bell in connection with the compact silver lead pipe guarantees easiest response in each register. Due to the balanced mass, it has been successful an ideal average value between low resistance of blowing and precise catching the tone. Even so, the excellent gold lacquer finish enables a never glaring sound. A corresponding gravure emphasises the premium character of this limited special edition. Of course, this instrument is also delivered with a second (shorter and rounder) main tuning slide and 3 heavy cups for more individual possibilities of composition in sound and response.

The sophisticated screwable mechanism provides an easy changing from gold brass to silver or brass. So, a professional and efficient reaction on the most different musical demands is possible without taking another instrument. Two tuning slides – for what reason? In order to give musicians more individual options the “UNIVERSAL” now includes two tuning slides of different lengths. This way, high or low centering brass players need to pull out the tuning slide only slightly. Furthermore, the shorter tuning slide is rounded. This facilitates a free response in the high register and guarantees a centered sound throughout the entire range.
Bb-Trumpet “POCKET“ Malte Burba A high quality pocket trumpet with outstanding characteristics: As the bell and the bore size are the same as a normal Bb trumpet and the intonation is excellently corrected, the “Pocket” can be used like any other trumpet. Next to the suitability for stage, especially as a show instrument, it is the perfect trumpet at all times and for everyplace. Because of its handy size, this instrument is the constant companion for each trumpet player.

Bb/A-Trumpet “PICCOLO“ Malte Burba This modern Bb/A piccolo trumpet meets all needs! To ensure the best combination for each player and piece of music, this trumpet comes with four lead pipes and two mouthpieces for trumpet and cornet. A heavy valve cap is enclosed. It can fulfill its purpose especially well on the third or fourth valve: the overtones and the sound projection in the distance are improved, response and articulation become more precise.

C-Trumpet “CLASSICUM C“ Malte Burba The Classicum C Trumpet is the ideal instrument for the soloist: excellent, very easy response, perfect intonation and it plays like a B-flat trumpet! These special properties have been achieved by reducing the total length of the instrument proportionally, rather than maintaining the bell length of the B-flat trumpet - as is usually the case. The resulting longer lead pipe leads to exceptionally pleasant playing characteristics, previously known only in B-flat trumpets.

Bb-Flugelhorn "UNIVERSAL FL“ Malte Burba     *NEW* This modern, completely newly developed B-flat flugelhorn meets all demands! The goal in the design of this flugelhorn was to once again develop an universal instrument for all purposes. In order to enable every player to assemble the ideal combination for himself and the corresponding piece of music, the instrument has been designed to be used with two different lead pipes and two mouthpieces for flugelhorn and trumpet which are included with the instrument. For the soloist, this instrument offers a rich and full sound with the flugelhorn lead pipe and the specially designed flugelhorn mouthpiece. The trumpet player in a wind or brass band who requires an easy response und good endurance will find the trumpet lead pipe and trumpet mouthpiece to be a practical alternative. Intonation and response are excellent in both versions! The included optionally separable weight system allows the player to individually adjust the sound and centering/ slotting of the instrument. An excellent instrument in French style.
