Benjamin Appel, born in Kaiserslautern in 1977, started playing the trombone at the age of eleven. After several prizes at “Jugend musiziert”, from 1996 to 1998 a guest study as a young student at the University of Music Würzburg followed. Afterwards Benjamin Appel studied in the classes of Prof. Martin Göss, Lothar Schmitt, Prof. Herbert Kamleiter and Norbert Daum. During his studies, he was a member of the Jungen Deutsche Philharmonie and an academist with the Munich Philharmonic. In 2004 Benjamin Appel graduated with a concert diploma.

From 2002 to 2006 Benjamin Appel was engaged as a bass and contra bass trombonist at the State Opera in Nuremberg. He has held the same position with the Munich Philharmonic since September 2006. Temporary work has taken him to renowned orchestras, including the Munich State Opera, Dresden State Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, SWR Stuttgart.

Since 2007 he has also been a member of the well-known ensemble “Blechschaden”, the brass section of the Munich Philharmonic.

In addition to courses in Germany and abroad, Benjamin Appel has been a lecturer at the University of Music in Munich since 2012.

Benjamin Appel has been professor for trombone at the Tyrol State Conservatory in Innsbruck since 2014.
